A youth says thank you & goodbye to a Former staff member at The Studio

“I want to thank you for the positive influence you’ve had on my life. You are integral to the studio and your contributions were instrumental in making the space as welcoming, diverse, and joy-filled as it is today. From what I’ve experienced and observed, you forge a strong personal connection with every youth who attends the program. You get to know everyone and take a genuine interest in their lives and wellbeing. I try to model my own interactions off of yours because I’ve seen first-hand how you help youth feel heard, seen and included.

You are an incredible role model. You lead people with a non-judgmental, open-minded approach that I aspire to emulate. You prioritize equity and are always willing to compromise because you want the best for everyone. I also love that you are always open to learning and keep the mindset that every person, no matter their stage of life, has something to teach you. Despite your wealth of knowledge and considerable life experience, you take in people’s stories and learn from them. I really admire that about you.

On the topic of life experience, you have consistently given me solid and dependable life advice. Three great pieces of advice from you that I implement in my everyday life are:

1. Have a morning routine but start the day with an activity you enjoy. I play piano every day after breakfast because of this tip and it helps set the tone for the day.

2. Do not diminish your accomplishments. Own them, and put them on your resumé.

3. Get paid for your work and even if you didn’t work, get your 10%!

Finally, I want to say good luck in your new position. While I think I speak for everyone when I say I’m sad to see you go, I also wish you all the best for the future. I am happy for you and I feel very fortunate that I got to know you.”
