Leave a Legacy Gift
Making plans to give:
Legacy gifts provide you with the unique opportunity to leave a significant contribution to Lumenus while still being able to meet you and your loved one’s future financial goals. Legacy gifts include, but are not limited to, gifts of life insurance, stocks & securities, and bequests.
Bequests – Make a gift in your will:
Charitable bequests allow your wishes to be realized into the future. A gift in your will can be a defined amount or be made as a percentage of your overall estate. Speak with your estate planner or use our online partner Willfora (linked below).
Benefits:
- Reduce estate taxes. Bequests are not only beneficial to the recipient. With proper planning a gift in your will can reduce estate taxes for the donor.
- Flexible legacy giving. Bequests take into consideration that even with extensive planning,
things in your life can change. Changes can be made at any time to ensure that your bequest
reflects your wishes and giving capabilities throughout your life.
Online Will:
Lumenus Community Services has partnered with Willfora, one of Canada’s leading online Will platforms, to provide an accessible option for Canadians who don’t have a will. Willfora allows you to create a legal Will online in 20-minutes or less, at no cost to you.
Securities:
A direct donation of stocks and securities is a great way to support Lumenus Community Services and reduce your own capital gains tax.
Benefits:
- A gift of securities is exempt from capital gains tax when you transfer the securities in kind to Lumenus.
- You are eligible for a tax donation receipt for the fair market value of the security the day it is sold.
*Lumenus does not hold gifts of stocks and securities. Stocks and securities will be sold upon transfer from donor.
Life Insurance:
Gifting a life insurance policy allows you to make a significant financial contribution that is paid over time, without feeling the impact.
Gift a new policy:
- Name Lumenus as a beneficiary and owner and receive a tax donation receipt for the cash value of the policy.
- You are also eligible for contribution receipts for any premiums you may pay.
Name Lumenus as the beneficiary of an existing policy:
- When Lumenus is named as the beneficiary of your existing policy your estate (upon death) will be eligible for a tax benefit.
Gift an existing policy:
- Receive a tax donation receipt for the cash value of the policy. You are eligible for a receipt for any premiums you pay after transferring the first policy.
