Lumenus Community Services offers mental health counselling to youth and their families in the hub of Launchpad, a state-of-the-art, barrier-free recreational facility located in Moss Park. This service is offered to underserved communities, where social justice issues (such as poverty and racism) heavily impact the mental health and wellbeing of young people and their families. This and on-site service provides immediate support or intervention where required, and is tailored to serve the specific needs of the children, young people and families who use it.
The MLSE Launchpad is a vibrant, new 42,000-square foot Sport For Development centre conceived by MLSE Foundation in partnership with Toronto Community Housing Corporation and the City of Toronto. It has a bold vision to connect physical and mental health while reducing the stigma associated with seeking help for mental health issues and has four pillar objectives: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Ready for School, Ready for Work.
With a multi- purpose gymnasium, a rock wall, classrooms, a teaching kitchen and a welcoming environment that fosters teamwork and healthy lifestyles, Launchpad is a place where youth facing barriers use sport to recognize and reach their potential. It represents a major opportunity for game-changing innovations in youth mental health: easily accessible services that not only engage and empower young people but also support their families, strengthening the potential of our next generation.
