Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Building equitable and inclusive care so everyone can be seen, be heard & be well.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

At Lumenus Community Services, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) are not ideals we simply aspire to — they are values we actively embed into everything we do. We are committed to moving beyond words, ensuring that DEI shapes our internal culture, guides our decisions and strengthens the care we provide to every client we serve.

We believe that access to support should never depend on who you are or where you come from. Our DEI Plan is built on three core pillars that reflect both the internal workings of our organization and the communities we serve. Together, they drive our commitment to reducing barriers, addressing systemic inequalities and making our services as accessible as possible for those who need them most.

We know this is an ongoing journey — one we take together with our employees, clients, families and partners. We remain dedicated to listening, learning and growing so that everyone who comes through our doors feels heard, valued, empowered and included.

Three Pillars Guiding Our DEI Strategy

Our DEI strategy is built on three pillars that help foster belonging, reduce barriers and expand access to care for the diverse communities we serve.

Pillar 1

Cultivating a Culture of Inclusion and Engagement

Pillar 2

Ensuring Equitable Opportunities, Actions and Outcomes

Pillar 3

Embedding DEI in Client Service

Lumenus Territorial Acknowledgement

We would like to acknowledge the sacred land on which we work, live, and connect communities is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, Anishnabeg, the Haudenosaunee, the Chippewa, and the Wendat peoples, and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.

Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands. We thank and honour the traditional territory of the closest Indigenous communities, on which our offices in the North (Finch offices), East (McNicoll), South (Church and Wellesley) and West (Etobicoke) are located.

For the first time in a long time, it felt like someone actually understood what I was going through.
